Free-fall

With 2 quilts almost finished this month

I decided it was time for a bit of fun.
I wanted to make one of my "housewives"
that would hold my lovely gingher scissors.

All the fabrics are from my collection of old kimonos and vintage ribbons.
I didn't have a pattern.
Is there a name for applique where the bits are just thrown together?

And today's quote.
Another 'quilt' inspiring one.
.
Free Fall
Most of our lives are structured.
Most of our actions are planned.
Most of our risks are covered.
All the more reason to free-fall sometimes.
Go with your instincts.
Let your heart lead.
Take a chance.

one week

I can't believe a whole week has passed since I blogged.
It has flown by.
But two weeks sice my son moved to Texas
yet that time seems to have dragged.

My stitching only (mostly) month is paying off.
I am basting another quilt.
I will have photos of the others when its daylight again.
Today's thought?
With experience we realise the importance of patience.
Too many decisions are reflex action.
Take the time to ponder.
Put things into perspective.
Allow situations to develop.
Sense the pattern of things.
Wait unil the moment is right.
Then be decisive.

Is quiliting and stitching a metaphore for life?

Do your best.

How often do we say it.
How often we promise to do it.
Yet how rarely do we actually do the best we can.
When we do --
when we use all our efforts,
when we push through old boundaries --
the satisfaction is enormous.
And the rewards are sweeter because
they've been earned.

Funny how these little 'life' quotes are also 'art' inspirations.
AND
I finished this little piece (14" x 11")

The top photo is a better represntation of the colour.

I couldn't do it

I couldn't go all month with out resorting to the machine!
I have been quilting but I couldn't resist the urge
to have a go at something today.

It is only a little thing and it almost quilted!

So here is today's thought
"Change direction
Even a small change can reap big benefits.
Consider alternatives.
Look with fresh eyes.
Register patterns.
feel where you are blocked or stale.
Try something new.
Start with small things and experience the difference.
Then you'll see the more important changes
and you'll make them naturally."

Long weekend

It has been a long weekend here.
The weather has been cold but beautiful.
I have kept up with the quilting.

 But...
We put our eldest son on a flight to Texas this morning.
He has moved there with his Texan girlfriend.
My heart is breaking.

This one is for you Darling.

No matter how far you travel
or how long the trip --
across the city,
across the country,
across the world,
or through your life --
the journey matters more than the destination.
Enjoy the journey."

Still quilting

I am pleased to say I have quilted about one third of this quilt already!

Today's excerpt form my new little book:
"Take the Path least travelled.
It takes courage and confidence.
It has some risks but it often brings great rewards:
the challenge of the new,
 the thrill of exploration,
growth from learning
and self-confidence from success."

Accentuate the Positive.

It's Ok with the author so I am going to give you one of these each day.
Accentuate the Positive.
"Too often we dwell on the negatives.
This weighs us down.
Look for the upside.
See light rather than the dark side.
it will transform your attitude.
It will empower you and reignite your passion."

So

So it's basted....

But I was thinking...
This might get boring.
So
I bought this little book on holidays called "Be Happy".
I think I will share something every day.
Here's a good start.
"Be faithful.
It sounds so old fashioned.
But fidelity is the foundation of so many valuable things,
like love,
mateship
and family.
Most importantly be faithful to yourself.
And your core beliefs."

Every day

This month I have decided I am just going to quilt.

Every day.

I started yesterday (maybe it's still Saturday where you are)
