These are my own version of the popular RED quilt

in past years.
But what I am so excited about
is that I have downloaded the phone app
for the exhibition "Infinite Variety...."

It is fantastic!!

Australia Day.

I didn't think I would have anything to post today
but I looked up from my quilting to see the sun streaming in the window
(not that hot today so the blinds are open)

and there is was....
the 'green and gold'.
The colours of our "plucky" country.
Plucky: that's what Geoffrey Rush,
Australian of the Year,
called US in his acceptance speech

Cheers!

That's it!

I can't wait until  "finish it Friday"
and I went to Annie's today
and so it was hardly a "wordless Wednesday"
but this is on the wall

It could hang a bit straighter
but it already looks
antique

So now I am tidying up the

Making some blocks with
the left overs

so
stay tuned.

Zig

 Did I say no triangles?

 Do yours measure 4 1/2"?

 Remember
because we have cut at an angle
you may need to off set the pieces a bit to account for the angle.

Next
lay out the rows.
This is done "on point"

 First row

then a second
and a third row.....

and then they are joined in diagonal strips.
I am making 2 halves and then deciding how BIG to go.

This size has 73 x 4 1/2" blocks
so that means.....
cut 5 x 4 1/2 strips from each fabric and then
cut  4 1/2" x 5" pieces (37 from each fabric)

BUT
I am going BIGGER!
Back to the calculator.

Happy New Year!

 Happy New Year every One.
I have decided that this year that I am going to have a go at some tutorials
So here is the first.
I have seen  a lot of zig zags in the decorating pages recently so I decided to adapt a quilt I have already made to be a bit crooked zig zag quilt.

I have started with 2 metres of 2 different fabrics.
Cut strips selvedge to selvedge 4 1/2" wide.
Your first decision:
How many?
Do a few and see if you like it before getting overcommitted

Place 2 strips together both right sides up.
Cut the strips into 5" pieces
and then cut these cross wise but a bit crooked.
Be sure your are cutting the correct way!!

Now swap top piece for the one underneath.

 Sew them together.
I flag sew!

Press to the darker fabric.
You should have a 4 1/2" square.
Lots of them!
I'll be back when I have counted them.
