commemorate or celebrate?

I was looking at my photos this afternoon 

getting ready to post

when these photos jumped out at me.

 I took photos  while walking the coastal path in Cornwall in 2013.

Tomorrow we commemorate 100 years since the beginning of the Gallipoli Campaign

and remember all those who have fallen in all wars.

Finished!

We've done it.

Walked 144.5 miles or 232 kilometres.

That's not counting back tracking, wrong turns, walking to the pub, short cuts that weren't,

and walks after dinner.

Yesterday was a bad day.

It poured rain all morning (yes on with the water proofs).

It was wet, muddy and very slippery!

Through the gate?

Or over the wall?

Through the quarry...

hmm, over the creek as the tide is rising...

More walking and another ferry,

Slow going,

And then here we are....

a very grand B&B.

The final leg of our walk into Falmouth.

Wish the path was like this a bit more often.

And our final view of Cornwall from our room?

That's the public loos.

12 miles: mostly moderate but a few hard bits.

Today is the first day I didn't have to carry my waterproofs.

That's because I wore them!

All day.

No need to worry about sunburn and my shoes do seem to be waterproof!

Today's highlights....

Don't you love signs?

And HE loves lifeboat stations.

It was wild weather most of the day.

Beautiful new oak bridge on the path built like a ship.

And then finally today we got to play the cheat card.

It was like the Monopoly card (go straight to Go.....)

We skipped the last bit of the path which had fallen down

(like I felt yesterday)

and went straight into the village.

The Lizard

14 miles: took forever!

Had a shower and went straight to the pub.

Here are the highlights

Porthleven this morning.

Mullion Cove.

The highlight of the day was these fellows.

We were at the pub next door where this "choir" had gathered to celebrate the 40th Wedding Anniversary of one of their friends. The singing of this 20-strong all male choir was fantastic.

14 miles: mostly 'easy' with a bit of up and down just when we were really tired.

Took us 7 or 8 hours. Who knows. Too tired to look!

Did you notice we had a couple of days off in Padstow?

Then spent yesterday catching public transport to Penzance....

Feel like we lost all our fitness in that time.
