Mid winter stitching

It’s midwinter here in Australia.
Heading to the shortest day of the year but there is still a bit
of sunshine
so I’m taking every opportunity to sit by the window and stitch.

In the past I have made quite a few quilts using fabrics from old Japanese textiles, mostly kimonos and futon covers. I only used the “good” bits without holes or fading or other imperfection.

My recent project has been to go back into that stash of discards to make the latest projects.

What i have been doing is assembling the piece, hand quilting all of it then going back and “mending” the holes. I guess I’m doing my version of “boro”

boro

Boro is a term much used these days.
In Japanese it refers to cloth that is in rags, tattered and mended.
I am reluctant to call what I do boro
but it is mending.

Old and new

I have gone back into my stash to make a cover
for my handy little thingy

and a bag for the charger

Rewind your life.
Spool through the memories.
Relive some of the highlights.
Recall some of the chacters who travelled with you.
Revisit some of the places that helped form your views.
See how far you have travelled.
Discover the things that matter.
Cherish them."

Still too too hot

I feel like I am on a long boring terrible trip.
Like one of those long long flights
from here to Europe
but I am in the sauna!

I should count my blessings.
The power is still on.
We have plenty of water.
I have a bath of cold water (my idea of a pool)
so I can wade in it now and again.
We have airconditioning, in one room.
And I can sew!

I love making tea cosies out of these precious little pieces.
You can buy one here!
