You know you can do workshops in working in a series?

I think it comes naturally.....

You start with one and think next time I'll......

and then text time I'll.....

and there. A series.

And then I think, I ought to keep a record.

Should I give them signs?

Maybe I should make some new ones.....

Latest tea cosy

This would have to be my favourite so far.

 

 

I am really enjoying making my tea cosies again. Why?

They allow me to work in a series (people give materclasses on that).

I work freehand making decisions as I go.

I love needle turn appliqué.

I am testing out various threads for quilting.

They are portable.

While not that quick they don't take that long and who doesn't like a finished project?

And it allows me to venture into Etsy in a small way.

update

 Here's an update on my handpiecing project:

I gave up.

I joined the initial circle of diamonds and then started on the squares

and it started to go crooked.

Now I see the attraction to paper piecing.

It's so much neater. 

And it's addictive.

I have my little travel kit all set to go everywhere with me now.

Hand piecing

I have been thinking about this project for ages.

I have been unpicking, washing and ironing

old (ish) kimonos.

 

And this afternoon I finally started cutting out this project.

And now, this evening, I have started sewing....

hmmm not so easy sewing black and darks in the evening.

See how I go?

At last

After my lovely holiday

I have, at last, got back to some sewing....

a bit of paper piecing.

Gadgets

Every time I start to plan my holidays

I start to worry about all those chargers and cords and connectors.

Especially as these days you tend to carry them in your hand luggage.

So I have made a little pouch-wrap kind of thingy.

 

 

And the I get to take along something I made,

and in my favourite old japaneses fabrics.

quite pleased

 I am quite pleased with this little one I have just finished.

So small but it still took a while.

It doesn't seem much

I don't seem to have much to show for my week away

 but how can you measure experience.

All that art,

all that friendship,

all that laughter.

I only get to catch up with these fellow artists once or twice a year

but it always feels like no time has elapsed.

On Monday morning we started with dyeing small batches of our fabric.

I used some on my old kimono fabric.

It took the dyes beautifully.

Monday stretched into Tuesday then Wednesday

(the plan was to get it all done Monday morning)

 and still we played with our individual dye pots.

We were supposed to make books

but my fabric seemed to crying out for the individual....

or maybe a set.

Lovely time.

I have been having a lovely time this week.

 I find it a bit  tricky in workshops.....

loving the tutors work

but finding it's much more difficult

than it looks.

So I decided to do my own thing

after we dyed all this beautiful fabric, that it.

But I had a bit of a dummy spit this morning. 

How early is too early to have a shower?

With ceiling fan going full-bore?

But then when the hair dryer started

and all this before 5.30 am....

I lost it.

A friend of mine asked me to make a little thing-y

so the could keep her mobile phone handy

and still have her hands free.

Just what I have been meaning to make

for myself for ages.

I hand stitched it from remnants of silk kimonos 

and some lovely old glass buttons.

Now how long will it take me to make one for me?
