Basted

After  a few emails on the topic

I thought I would have a peak at

my backside.

Pretty smooth I'm thinking.

To avoid wrinkles I secured the backing (pulling it quite firmly) to the floor. 

That is either the carpet in my bedroom, there's not always room, or by taping it to the living room floor which is timber. Then I placed the other layers on top.

When I am pinning, the quilt is hanging over the table so I'm thinking gravity pulls out any wrinkles.

But I am always looking for an easier  way!

 With an unusual burst of energy I made a batch of scones for class this week

It must be the cooler weather making me want to bake.

And look at these beautiful hydrangeas for the teacher!

Basting

I baste with pins.

Good pins that I buy from the drycleaners.

About 1000 to the box 

and I keep them in these nice old jars....

Trouble is the jars are all full 

and I have nowhere to put the pins from the current quilting.

So it's time to baste a couple more quilts.

Next problem...

choosing a backing from my stash.

 

Once I have the 3 layers together

I do the pinning at the table 

 

but with 2 chairs so I can move side to side.

I feel like I am playing a duet

but on my own.

Basting

With my white quilt almost done I am turning to the next quilt.

I started this quilt in Febuary last year in a Kaffe Fasset workshop. 

It is in his book "Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts". 

He calls the quilt "Tilt"..

The workshop took place on the day of the devastating earthquake in Christchurch, NZ.

I had many friends in Christchurch that day, who thankfully made it home safely.

But

how to quilt it, by hand of course?

The quilt is a lot like this old piece of "Boro" I have had for some time.
