too late

I was too late finishing this to call it a 2018 finish.
But here it is:
It is based on a Red Wagon pattern which I "customised"

The flip-side.
This is a remake of one of my very first quilts and the owner of that has claimed this.
After the usual round of social media and public exposure.

Cheers for 2019
and here's to lots more blogging.

Field Barns

Swaledale, the area we passed through the last day or so, is noted for its isolated stone barns.

There are many, many of them.

They were part and parcel of the traditional farming methods of the area which saw grazing land enclosed between stone walls, the cattle kept in the barns between October and May, fed on hay stored in the upper roof space of the barn. Cows were milked where they stood and their manure was spread on the surrounding fields.

Typically, a field barn would house four or five cows, hence a farmer with a large herd would need plenty of barns to keep them in.

Today they are largely redundant and some of them are being converted into tourist accommodation.

But I am thinking quilts....

Borders

Borders....isn't that the topic of the decade?

I have been working on mine.

They are pieced in 2 1/2" squares. A good way to use the small pieces.

I have shaded from dark to light and pieced them along with the blocks.

Nearly done.

Unplanned

It was unplanned that my two ideas would collide like this.

I realise that it was in remaking this quilt that I had

Linda Brannock, Jan Patek and Gerry Kimmel on my mind.

I am making progress on my houses quilt

so much so it has out grown the design wall,

that is, the quilt on the wall I have been pinning the blocks to.

But when to stop?

Here's the one I did earlier:

About 20 years earlier!

It's on my son's bed and I had to get him to message me a photo.

Just now. Ahh technology.....

It's from this book.

Glad you kept them? I am.

Year of the House

This year we anticipate getting a bit of work done on our house.

Not looking forward to it.

So I am going to indulge myself and concentrate on houses for my quilts.

Actually I have already started.

I should start one of those "make this with me"

but you can sort that yourselves.

The house blocks are all going to measures 10" x 6" ( so far)

and I have done a few basic ones to start with

and then I have changed a bit.

I am enjoying this.

quite pleased

I am quite pleased with this little one I have just finished.

So small but it still took a while.

Love what you do

I find it hard not to be weighed down by all the sad things this week.
So I decided I would get back to what I  love.

Making little things.... do what I can control.

While I was sitting at my table this came on the tellie.
It's the new "branding" for our public broadcaster, ABC.

I hope you can open it.
I was cheered up to the point of tears.

well stacked!

I hang my exhibition tomorrow!
Am I getting excited??
I have taken down all the quilts:
I have had them hanging in case they drop a bit,
and they have.
Just a bit.
So I have hung up some "old" ones.
Oldies but goodies!

I think the new ones make a good stack though.

Sometimes I just can't wait

to start a new quilt.

My head has been full of  my "blues"
which once again
I have unpicked and washed.
Not good weather on the weekend
so they dried inside.
Then...

a lot of piecing

But they stack up!
And I'm using the leftovers
as I go.
