Book binding

I have been wishing my drawing was better

so with my exhibition over

that's what I am doing.

While I do have a couple of Moleskine books in reserve

I decided instead to make my own.

Oh why stop at one when you have to get all that gear out.

Strictly speaking this book is not bound but rather folded.

Very easy. Thank you YouTube (concertina book)

Paperback

I am thinking of my new book as a paperback

so I thought I should make a slip case to protect it.

So

back to YouTube.

The site I found suggested I would get better at this with practice.

Who knew?

So I had a practise with my little travel journals I made last year.

Worked out well.

I think cereal boxes are just the right weight.

So then I started on the main project.

Failure.

I didn't have enough "seam allowance" in my cardboard

and it was way too thick.

Back to the Office Supplies shop.

Aren't they fun? So many distractions.

More graffiti to cover it and a good result in the end.

Slow stitch

I seem to have been doing so much s-l-o-w stitching lately
that I have very little to show.
I wanted to make a book for a special occasion
but I just couldn't remember wher to start.
Enter: YouTube.

The cover is a print of photos taken of graffiti round Fitzroy.
Very suitable don't you think?

Unplanned

It was unplanned that my two ideas would collide like this.

I realise that it was in remaking this quilt that I had

Linda Brannock, Jan Patek and Gerry Kimmel on my mind.

I am making progress on my houses quilt

so much so it has out grown the design wall,

that is, the quilt on the wall I have been pinning the blocks to.

But when to stop?

Here's the one I did earlier:

About 20 years earlier!

It's on my son's bed and I had to get him to message me a photo.

Just now. Ahh technology.....

It's from this book.

Glad you kept them? I am.

finishing off

I am very fond of these little pieces I started last year
so I thought I would try and mount them.
It's fiddly.
 I have marked needle holes
and then used an awl
to make the hole all the way through.

But I am waiting for someone to get home from work
to tie a knot!

And these are the last of my books.
These three are done with "japanese stab stitch"

These last two have exposed binding and soft covers.

I all now ready for a few holidays.
Well the notebooks are sorted anyway.

Grampians Texture

Did you notice I might have been away.
I have been doing my favourite thing.....

Not textiles really, but paper this time.
I spent the weekend making "feral" books.

Now I think I will do this slowly so you don't get overloaded.
We drove to Halls Gap
which is about 1 1/2 hours west of here,
3 hours west of Melbourne.

It felt like I was walking in  a McCubbin painting.

I would wake in the morning to the sound of kookaburras
and kangaroos grazing out side my window.
How amazing is that!!

It
walked to class each morning past the wildlife....

 Check out these two?

I am glad I am nowhere that right hook!

And my book.
Rather upstaged by the wild life.
