Happy New Year

Another hot day,

but it is summer.

I have been staying indoors trying to getting the most quilts finished before the New Year.

Once quilted I had to decide on binding.

Hmm, plain or pattern....I opted for pattern.

What do you think?

I thought I would share this from Twitter.

I decided to join Twitter to keep tabs on this bush fire on Christmas Day.

A hot, busy, sad Christmas this year.

Hot......hot

The last few days have been so hot,

hot

and last night bush fires were close.

So I put my quilt on a table

sat in the path of the air conditioner

and stitched.

Cooler tonight. I might even have to put the quilt on my lap.

Not surprised

Well my little kits are done and given away
so I can unveil my Christmas stitching now.

BUT
I have edited this photo
why does blogsy not show that version?
So so annoying.
But look...
I fixed it this morning.

Trying not to panic

Well in 2 weeks time I hope to be relaxing after my big lunch.

In the meantime I am trying to be slow and steady

in my Christmas preparations.

Today I made some cards!

I bought these plain from Kmart.

It was the old fashioned envelopes I wanted.

I thought they would be good for my journal to keep things I don't want to glue.

I hope my friends love these envelopes like I do.

Now, what else did I have to do......

I have been keeping busy

Well it's that time of year isn't it

when a sense of panic can set in.

I have ordered my Christmas turkey and picked out a ham.

Maybe I should think about a cake....

while I'm doing a bit of kimono unpicking

I am thinking about a cake.

And I have been thinking while I do a bit of hand quilting.

Nearly there.

And I have basted this quilt ready for hand quilting.

Maybe I should do some tidying up next.

Quilted

Yesterday I made an early start on this scrap quilt.

I had been mulling over how to quilt it but given the recipient

I thought machine quilting would be the most hardy,

and the quickest.

Had to take a break around lunch time

but by late afternoon it was all done!

The recipient wasn't too sure.....

Normally she carefully steps around quilts when they are laid out on the floor

so it took a while for her to relax.

Wish I had made her a quilt sooner.

Whoops!

I don't know how I did that...

I lost the last post so I will put the photos back again..

Oh, the wonders of technology.

The pattern

I am still working on That quilt

but I thought I would start writing up the pattern

(before I forget the maths)

I am enjoying the drawing.

Any one interested in the pattern?

Alterations

Should I leave this as it is

or

change the little pieces at the bottom

to complete the circle?

In one piece

My latest quilt is all one piece.
Still not sure if I like it....
Hmmm, borders?

I do love it when my maths works out, eventually.

Not so sure

I have been working on a new quilt.
That's lot of sewing before I see a result but I'm not so sure about how it is going to look.
I was playing on Instagram later.....
the colours are lot like my freshly dug homegrown spuds.

New

Time to start something new...

Here's my fabric selection
not counting a rummage through the scraps box.
I am starting with the basic 9-patch.
2 1/2" squares.
You are welcome to join me but it will get more complicated.
I have sewn triangle on all four sides.
6 1/2" x 3 3/4" rectangle cut diagonally to give half a 60 degree triangle.
I am working this out as I go along
from a picture on the Internet.
Hmmmm
hope it works.

A bit of stitching

I spent a lovely sojourn last week at Tafta Geelong.

Here is my little collection of samples of limo cuts

and various other techniques

so I thought I would stitch a little thingy,

what should I call it,

to put them in.

I do like a bit of stitching,

so I used a bit of my vintage kimono silks.

All packed up

Well my exhibition is all packed up now

and some things sent off to their new homes.

I made these 2 new tea cosies a bit late in the show
and so I am quite happy to be able to admire them a bit longer.

Really, I just love all this hand stitching....
