Favourite child

Do people ask you which is your favourite quilt?
To me that's like asking which is my favourite child.

But
I definitely think it's this one.....

this week.

I even love the back.

une poche

A friend of mine asked me to make a little thing-y
so the could keep her mobile phone handy
and still have her hands free.
Just what I have been meaning to make
for myself for ages.

I hand stitched it from remnants of silk kimonos
and some lovely old glass buttons.
Now how long will it take me to make one for me?

Binding

You know how it goes...
the quilting is all done
so you have to make the binding.
Measure and measure
and cut.
I wanted to use some stripey fabric from an old kimono
and if my maths is correct I need to cut 25 strips!

It's only 13'' from selvedge to selvedge.
And as I started to sew I  started to panic.
Doesn't seem like I have made enough...

And then I knock one of the dials changing the stitch and snap the needle.
Lucky I find a new packet of needles
Then the bobbin runs out.

It's done now
and my favourite bit...
hemming the binding.

still stitchng

I have spent this last week quietly stitching....
not much to say.
A quote from today:
"They tried to bring Paris to its knees
instead
they bought Europe to its feet!"

I bought a new book though.
Last time Junko Oki publised a book I was too slow.
Not this time.

If you like stitching
it is fabulous!

and stitching

How is your year shaping up?
We are planning a few things this year
but so far I am starting off slowly...

All the stitching is done on this darling.
Another slow quilt:
unpicked Futon covers,
all the fluff picked off,
washed and ironed
and cut into 1287 pieces.
Not that many really ( just counted them)

With the new year began, I thought I might share a few more thoughts from this thoughtful book.

Learn something every day.
Every day, open your mind to something new.
It can come from natue, from others or from within.
Be aware.
Question the mundane.
Allow new things into your consciousness.
Relish the challenge.
