In one piece
Have you seen me on Instagram?
If so you would have seen that the house quilt is in one piece.
It's quite big so hard to get a good photo.
Maybe an uncropped one is better.
Look at that ironing board:
only just ironed the quilt.
I thought these colours might suit this post...
I went for a walk in the bush the other day in preparation for next BIG walk.
Who thought I would see an echidna just on the path!
And the bush is own kind of dramatic.

Borders
Borders....isn't that the topic of the decade?
I have been working on mine.
They are pieced in 2 1/2" squares. A good way to use the small pieces.
I have shaded from dark to light and pieced them along with the blocks.
Nearly done.

A word on the roof
The instructions for this pattern read:
cut and piece 59 houses.
I guess back then we made templates.
At first I thought the roof and sky would be "flying geese".
But it turned out to be a bit more complicated.
You could just make photocopies and foundation piece
or
play with the maths as I have done
I have added a bit of extra and cut out 2 rectangles (4 1/2" x 5 1/2")
Placed wrong sides together and cut diagonally.
That way I ended up a piece and its reverse for either side.
And then I trimmed to the pattern measurements.
If you are as keen as me to have some of these old books here is a good source
and keep in touch if you have decided to make one of these.
