More bracelets

Just a few more bracelets….

 

Textile jewellery

I am sure I am not alone when I say this;

I have any number of projects on the go at the moment.

But I have become distracted with making textile jewellery.

I was deep into my stash of Japanese fabric looking for something with a bit of colour when I found this little packet of lovely meisen silk.

Lovely colours so I just needed to make a few necklaces and bracelets….

As luck would have it I might get to teach a couple of workshops using just a few scraps and some nice buttons….

 

Oh the joy oh Drawing

 

Nick Cave, in his newsletter, ask his readers what gave them joy. 

He was overwhelmed by the responses and so has created a page on his website so we could all read them.

What a joy it would be for me to be able to put a link here 

but maybe when tech support arrives I can do that

Last week I attended a 6 day workshop with Deb Mostert at Grampians Brushes.

Yes for the time being you’ll have to search that as well.

It was pure joy!

Women on the move

 

I don’t know why I only just thought to do this recently, putting my “women” on my tea cosies. 

I am quite pleased with them. Women on the move seems quite topical at the moment

Mid winter stitching

 

It’s midwinter here in Australia.

Heading to the shortest day of the year but there is still a bit 

of sunshine

so I’m taking every opportunity to sit by the window and stitch.

and three ceramicists. 

I am really proud of how it has all come together

So why not take a drive down the Great Ocean Road this weekend and say Hi!

I seem to have a lot going on but not much to post.

Several friends sent me a pictures of this cute little bag and I just had to try it. 

Unfortunately it doesn’t show up well because it is so dark in colour but

I do like it.

Australasian Quilt Convention

I don’t really enter my quilts into shows anymore.

I find the paperwork and photography arduous but mostly it’s because i just don't think that is the best way to show them too advantage.

 

But I am so thrilled for the opportunity to have my quilts at a quilt show when they can be seen at their best.

For the next couple of days you can see a couple of my large quilts as well as some of my “women” at the ZiguZagu

 

Recent work

 Ah, blogger. The last time I posted after a long break it was all too easy. This morning it won’t let me type anything so now I am editing the post I just made! 

This quilt is a collation of lots of left over pieces from other projects. I was inspired by the quilt in

“Unexpected and Unconventional. American Quilts Below the Radar”

In the past I have made quite a few quilts using fabrics from old Japanese textiles, mostly kimonos and futon covers. I only used the “good” bits without holes or fading or other imperfection. 

My recent project has been to go back into that stash of discards to make the latest projects.

What i have been doing is assembling the piece, hand quilting all of it then going back and “mending” the holes. I guess I’m doing my version of “boro”

I have been making a lot of these lately.

I started them a few years ago when there seemed so many pressing issues that made me want to get out and protest. Well that hasn’t changed!
