Redbrook-on-Wye to White Castle

We started the day very pleasantly heading uphill through the back of the villages from Lower Redbrook to Upper Redbrook gazing at the rooftops and back gardens.

Rain threatened.

Actually it rained for a good part of the day but those waterproofs get heavy so easier to wear them.

I don't tend have the camera the camera out in the rain but here's a few highlights.

And rain does make it lovely and green.

Distance covered today: 24 kilometres

Chepstow to Redbrook-on-Wye

We started out our first real day of walking with rain forecast which eventuated earlier than we expected but was short lived. We had lots of sun and lots of shade.

The scenery was marvellous.

( I think you might have to get used to superlatives this trip)

My photos were a bit ordinary but here goes:

Leaving Chepstow this morning, lots of fruit trees planted in public spaces (what a good idea)

Chepstow Castle, the oldest Norman castle in the UK.

We spent a lot of time walking in the most beautiful woods,

lots of uphill and downhill,

resting at a bus stop

At the end of the day we took an old railway bridge across the Wye to the pub.

I earnt my cider and our B & B! Wow.

The only downside today?

Two pubs in town and neither do food on a Monday.

Can you believe it?

Distance covered: 26 kilometres.

You ready?

Are you ready for this year's walk?

It's going to be easy for you, just follow along.

We arrived in London yesterday and caught the train to Chepstow this morning.

Things went pretty smoothly except for almost missing our connecting train and having to run with our suitcases down the platform up the stairs, over the train tracks and back down those stairs.

Only just made it.

Our lovely B & B is only about a mile from the station.

Not too far to walk

with our suitcases up, up, uphill. Phew. Good start.

This rock marks the start of the trail and rather than walk all the way to it and back in the morning we did that bit this afternoon.

You have to start at the start.

Well really this is the start down on the water's edge.

Tomorrow we will have a head start.

Where are we anyway? This year we are walking Offa's Dyke Path.

"The 285 kilometre trail offers an unforgettable journey between the Severn Estuary and the north Wales coast, conquering mountain ranges, contouring above the Wye and Dee, visiting superb hill forts and Norman castles and exploring the hidden heritage of the Marches."

I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Slow finish

It doesn't seem like I have finished anything lately.

But there is this....

Oh, I meant these

And may be a coordinating necklace.

Nice and light for my travels.

update

Here's an update on my handpiecing project:
I gave up.

I joined the initial circle of diamonds and then started on the squares
and it started to go crooked.
Now I see the attraction to paper piecing.
It's so much neater.
And it's addictive.

I have my little travel kit all set to go everywhere with me now.

Finishing school

I thought I would share my recent completions....

some fabric is just too good to cut up so it's best used for something special.

And more backing too good to cut up.

Paper cuts

Recently I spied this shape, an octahedron, and thought
'I want to make one of those'.

After much searching on the internet and youTube I found instructions.
What fun!

It is made up of 12 folded units.
I used an old Melways which was  perfect
and don't you just love maps?

Ha ha. I did it!

So I did it again!
Much quicker the second time.
