I have been working on the white quilt from that fabric.

Goose in the Pond

This is the quilt my classes have been working on this week.
I started the quilt some years ago and have just finished . It's hand quilted.
The block is documented both as "Goose in the Pond" and "Young Man's Fancy",
(be careful if you google that)

I love the backing fabric: maps of Paris.

We stared and stared at this one.
What's wrong? well it was just decded to leave it.

You can't beat blue and white.

pick ups

I was reading on jean's blog about a pick up she wanted to photogragh. Made me think of this news clipping I saved one Summer about the Denillquin Ute Muster.

A "ute" is an Australian invention:  a woman (in the 30's) told her husband her ideal car was one for use on the farm that she could ride to church in on Sunday. Hence the utility vehicle.
I don't think she anticipated this!

More White Stuff

I am so inspired by white!
And guess what? We went skiing this weekend. The weather was unbelievable.
These photos were taken from the Summit.
In 2003 bush fires came within metres of the village, just across a narrow gully.. What remains are these stick trees. Spectacular aren't they?
That's me.

Me and the mountain climber.

and my  son, in the centre. Not many people if you get out early.
And this looks quilted!

The last few days I have been unpicking and washing white kimonos.
It's slow work but well worth it.

I want to make another quilt similar to this. Just white!

Mandarine or tangello

I had my class today. Look what we had for morning tea!
This mandarine cake was made using a recipe for an orange cake where you blend the whole fruit in the food processor then add the rest of the ingredients. Sooo easy!
I substituted mandarines from a friend's garden.

I bought this "tangello" solid to back a quilt where I wanted the hand quilting to be seen but it's such a lovely colour I want to make a quilt with it.

what did I make?

Have I told you what a fantastic time I had last week?  One of my classmates commented that you learn from the tutor but you learn so much more from the Others. Oh yes!
I have re-thought some of my clothes
I think I might get my hair cut differently (no pink though)
Never throw Any thing out
Age is a state of mind (one of my classmates is 90!)

So here are some of my things.
Then yesterday we went to Melbourne for a while. We had a lovely late lunch here

and then walked up Smith Street.

busy week

Wow! What a week.
I started the week, anxious and excited, looking the others over, wondering .....
You just never know what to expect at these weeks.
One thing for sure:
there are so many wonderful clever women (because this time they were all women) out there.

For example Kes and her jewelry made from tins! such as those olive oil comes in. I boughtsome of these earings.
She also works in silver: look at these brooches!

Kes doesn't have a website so contact me if you would like info and I will forward it.
Watch this space for more.

It's just 2'' strips and measures 2m x 1.5m.
It was in my May exhibition.

New heights

Wondering how I find time to blog so often? Well that's because my husband has been away.....

Here he is with our eldest son on the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro!
They reached the peak (5895m or 19,341ft AMSL ) last Thursday and I am pleased to say they returned home safely last night, well this morning really.

This is what I made last year.
This week is all about paper.  .
Here is a line I read on my tutor's website
A blog; it's a weird concept. Like leaving your diary on a high shelf in a dark corner of the biggest library you can find.

Collage, Assemblage and Books

I am vey excited.Today I'm off to fibre arts for a week. I'm doing "Collage, Assemblage and Books".

I have made these small quilts(15cm x 15cm) for the "compact Exhibition". That means I get to exhibit along side National and International artists!
I was rushing yesterday to make/finish them. Why oh why do you always have to wind a matching bobbin when you're in a hurry?

I opened the tools case and there was a matching one already in the matching colour!
I'm off to pack!

jonquils!

Yesterday it rained and rained. Lovely.
I stayed indoors and pottered back and forth between projects. More on those another day.

I have just been to the gate to get the newspaper and the jonquils are out. Spring is on the way.

I love yellow.

Water!

During those long dry summers  we were not allowed to use any water outside the house. No water on the garden at all. Our lawns turned brown then white. To keep our trees alive we stood in buckets in the shower and emptied that water onto the trees to keep them alive. Most were saved.
I used to lie in bed at nightand dream of water. So I made this quilt.

But be careful what you wish for! Once the drought broke it has hardly stopped raining !

A lovely bit of weather!

I was going to post another white quilt today but I have just been for a walk and I think something a bit brighter is called for:

This quilt measures about 2 metres square. All hand appliqued and hand quilted!
I started the applique in the summer of 2009, an awful summer in Victoria. I can't help look at the quilt and be reminded.
It's from an antique pattern called "Love Apple' but rather than a flower it is a tomato. Early on tomatoes were admired as a fruit before they were eaten as a 'vegetable'.
