Churn Dash

 I am well on the way with my Churn Dash blocks.

It's hard to believe I have been quilting all these years and never got round to this pattern.

 I am really enjoying all the combinations I am getting out of my scraps:

I have a big plastic container with the scraps sorted into colours or styles or sizes....

But I am getting to the point of delving into the shelves of my stash...

And before I go too far I had to decide on a layout so I could keep count.

I am thinking like this? Can you see the difference?

I'm back

Do you find when you take a break that it is hard to find inspiration?

Thanks to this Instagram post I found some inspiration.

"Churn Dash" has been on my to-do list for a long time.

It has been so long since I have been at my sewing machine that it seemed to have seized up.

I think that also may be due to the cold, a bit of heating helped as well.

So I have donated the first four blocks and just kept going.

It's nice to find motivation isn't it?

Bodfari to Prestatyn

Yippee! We did it!

So that's that. Did you have a good time?

We have walked nearly 300 kilometres. Thanks for your help.

We started the day in pouring rain and set up the first big hill straight away.

 

Our destination was in sight most of the day.

I started to feel nostalgic about the sign post we have been following for weeks but

not about the stiles! We counted over 40 today. That's about one every 10 minutes,

including stone ones.

We slowed here for a while hoping the cows would let us through the gate.

I am not very brave in the face of large farm animals.

Tantalisingly close.

Clwyd Gate to Bodfari

The penultimate day! Who would have thought?

Beautiful day, beautiful scenery. Are you ready?

 

 

 

Five big hills, above the clouds.

Twenty miles to Prestatyn. Yay. That will be by tomorrow afternoon.

 

 

Oh it's been lovely. The B&B drove us to the pub for dinner and the publican drove us back in his Jaguar 4WD. I think I know what car I'm getting next!

Llangollen to Clwyd Gate

What a beautiful day! Set out in sunshine and cloud with a stiff breeze in our faces.

Here's some highlights.

 

 

 

29 miles to Prestatyn. That's two and a half days to go.

We stopped in here,Llandegla, at the village community shop for a cuppa and cake

Maybe we shouldn't have spent so much time having cups of tea and chatting to the locals

but it was lovely.

Nearly missed this sign pointing the change in direction....

and then into the forest, very Lord of the Rings.

About here we thought we were nearly done for the day.

And that's a lot steeper than it looks.

Magnificent!

We got in about 2 hours later than usual and were very tired but it was a glorious day.

Llanymynech to Bronygarth to Llangollen

Yes I know we skipped a day.

No internet last night but just as well because I didn't have a great day yesterday.

I didn't take many photos and it seems our described itinerary was about 4 kilometres short of the actual distance. Imagine you're all psyched up to do 20k and when you get that far there is a sign pointing the way for another 2 3/4 miles! That's at least one more hour. I was grumpy.

Those few kilometres can be a deal breaker

especially when the path is overgrown like this with head high bracken, stinging nettle and prickly wild things,

narrow and uneven like this so you reach out to steady yourself

and the farmers have thoughtfully topped their fences like this.

But before long we arrived at our lovely B & B welcomed with cake and a cup of tea.

And what a lovely garden, fruit trees, veges, the lot.

Today was a lovely day.

We skirted the edge of Chirk Castle, said goodbye to Offa's Dyke (even though have have 3 more days walking the path) and met the Llangollen Canal.

 

It was such a highlight walking across the Pontcysylite Aquaduct, built to carry the canal over the River Dee.

 

1000 feet long, the first stone was laid in 1795 and took 10 years to complete.

Distance covered: 27 kilometres and then 18 kilometres today.
